Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. ~ Elizabeth Stone
My little Sadie is sick :( The kind of sick that involves doctor visits, blood tests, x-rays, and trips to the E.R. followed by yukky tasting medicine that makes you cry when you see it, and then throw up after you take it :( :( And it is breaking this mama's heart to see her like this. I absolutely know that God loves her, and that He is holding her in the palm of His hand. He loved her long before I was blessed enough to look into those deep chocolate brown eyes, and hear her sweet voice, or stroke her stray hair away from her brow. My joy is to care for her and love her well, and my struggle is not to worry so much, or let fear or sorrow take root as I wait for the skip in her step to return.
I have thought of the above quote more than once in my years of mothering. Different occasions have brought with them an ache inside as I have watched my little (or once little, now suddenly all grown up) ones venture out into the world and into really big situations alone. None have brought me to my knees quite the way seeing a little one so sick and being so helpless does...
