Sadie was SO excited for Daddy's birthday this year! As soon as she woke up in the morning, our conversation about cakes began. First she thought we should make a smiley face cake - okay... no problem! Then, she decided on a fish cake, since daddy loves to go fishing, and I immediately thought of this one . I have made it a couple of times for the boy's birthdays, and the cake and frosting recipes have become my favorite go to recipes for birthday cake (although I will say that the frosting and I still have a little work to do on our relationship ;) I love it, but the frosting doesn't turn out perfectly every time, and I have yet to figure out the secret to getting the proper results consistently. It is always delicious, but sometimes it doesn't look quite as firm as I would like, or make as nice of peaks as it should. I have read that it can depend on the humidity outside etc. but honestly since I can't control the humidity on our birthdays that hasn't been very helpful. : (
When I showed Sadie the picture of the cake we were going to make she let me know that she really thought the cake should have a real fish on top (like they catch when they go fishing). . . umm NO!!! I still smile when I think of her comment and how sweet and sincere she was, wanting so much for the cake to be just right for her daddy. Luckily she was willing to settle for a fish shaped cookie!
Sadie happily helped me make the cake - and clean the bowl ;)
And the girl's both helped with the cookies. . .
Although the finished product isn't nearly as pretty as the original, it was very yummy, and we were happy with how it turned out. It was a family gift of love after all ;)
And daddy seemed to love it which is what birthday cakes are all about!
Sara :)
I think yours is cuter! And I LOVE your cake stand!!
